Growing old is not a mystery. The mystery is growing old gracefully. In fact it’s a good thing that our bodies are going to, or are
currently showing us sure signs of aging. That way we can get a head start on solving the growing old gracefully issue..
The sure signs of aging are numerous, and some are even obvious. Most are not earth-shattering changes which our bodies experience. Also we can certainly deal with these signs of aging. As if we have a choice in the matter. Lets take a look at the most obvious signs of aging.
Obvious signs of aging.
We can’t do what we used to do for as long as we used to do it.
When I was young, and living in Utah, it was normal for me to party on Saturday nights, until the wee hours of Sunday morning. And then rise and shine in time to be one of the first skiers on the lift at the Snow Basin ski resort, come Sunday morning.
It didn’t end there. My friends and I would ski all day long, and return to the party life Sunday night. And still make it to work on time Monday morning. I’m not bragging about my life style back in the day. The point I am trying to make is that there is no way that I could do such a thing at this stage of my life. Nor would I even try.
As we age, age our body tells us not to try the stuff we used to do. And if we do try, our bodies are going to show us what pain truly is. We have to change our life styles.
We Can’t See so Good Anymore.
Over the years, one of the effects of an active lifestyle, is that we don’t see things as clearly as we used to. I’m 71 years old, and most people my age are either wearing glasses, should be wearing glasses, or have a pair of glasses in their pocket for reading. Our eyes don’t normally stay healthy for a lifetime.
The Same is True with our Memory.
What I used to think I would never forget, and now I can’t remember what I thought I would never forget. That’s just the way it is. There is some things we can do to improve our memory however.
We need to keep our brains active. Our brain is like any other muscle. If we don’t use it, it will become weak. A good exercise for the brain is reading, and thinking about what we have read. Read, ponder, and think on a daily basis.
High Blood Pressure
It seems that with aging comes high blood pressure. The causes of blood pressure are numerous. They include being overweight, too much salt in our system, and last but not the least getting old.
The common cures are obvious. Loss weight, watch what we eat, and start exercising. Care must be taken, however, how we exercise, especially if we are not accustomed to exercising on a regular basis.
So, if, as we pass one of those free blood pressure testing machines, which are found in many drug stores. Instead of passing bye, we should take the test. And find if our blood pressure is a tad high.
We then decide to be proactive and start exercising. We need to take care not to do too much, too fast. That’s a bad thing. Many of us baby boomer have gotten our exercise in the past, exclusively through the fun activities we were involved in, or through our work.
It is normal that as we age these opportunities to exercise become more few and far between. It is important that we maintain our fitness throughout our lives. As we age, our fitness activities may need to adjusted to match our capabilities.
Before we embark on a fitness programs, to overcome high blood pressure, we need to consult with a physician. The last thing we want to do is overdue it. Observe the golden rule. If an exercise hurts stop, and find out why it hurts.
Skin Becomes Thin
As we age, age our skin loses its durability. I can personally testify of that. What used to scratch my skin, now creates a full
blown cut. And it seems that my skin bruises at the drop of a hat. Plus these cuts and bruises take longer to heal.
My skin is no longer as resistant to the sun as it used to be. I’ve noticed that when I’m playing golf. In the time it takes me to play nine holes, I develop a rash on my arms and legs.
I’ve looked into these three skin problems and it is because I’ve lost enough fat tissue from my skin, to the extent that my skin appears to be thinner.
The only thing I can do about this skin thing is to take extra steps to protect my skin, and avoid too much sun.
Our Bones Aren’t as Strong as They Used To Be.
It’s true, our bones weaken with age. That’s because they become less dense and more brittle.
The cure is to fortify our bones by making sure that we get enough calcium, and vitamin D into our system. It is a good idea to consult a doctor. There are calcium and vitamin D supplements available, which will strengthen our bones.
Certain Body Parts Increase In Size.
Our ears, unlike our muscles and bones, never stop growing. That’s because our ears are made primarily of cartilage, and cartilage doesn’t stop going.
One of the characteristics of cartilage is that it tends to become thinner with age, and that causes the skin on our ears to stretch and sag. Gravity takes over and our ears appear bigger. For the same reason the tip of our nose gets longer and drops.
Not an exciting prospect for our appearance. But short of plastic surgery, there nothing much we can do about it.
Long In The Tooth
I’ve heard this expression before, and I know that it pertained to old age. But I didn’t know that I was suffering from this ailment.
As we age, age tissue in our gums lose some of their mass, and gums actually begin to shrink. Consequently more of our teeth appears.
This condition is not reversible, so its important take good care of our teeth. That includes thorough brushing and flossing.
Packing on Pounds
We baby boomers proudly admit that we are getting heavier, and we reason that we’re doing this because we’re not getting enough exercise. Well we’re halve right.
As we age, age we lose muscle mass. The loss of muscle mass slows down our metabolic rate, so we are more likely to store fat.
The cure is to build that muscle mass back up again. We do that the old fashion way. By exercising.
Signs of Aging Which Need To Be Taken Seriously
There are signs of aging which cannot be fixed by changing our diet, or by exercising, or taking supplements purchased at the drugstore. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. Signs such as shortness of breath, dizziness, or pain in the chest can be a sign of a heart attack.
Likewise, numbness can be a sign of a stroke in our near future. If anyone experiences any of these sign, please do not ignore them, thinking that they will go away. See a doctor immediately.
An Alternate Way to Age Gracefully
There is an alternate way to make the aging process less painful. There is a product which is distributed by a company, whose goes bye the acronym, CTFO. Which stands for Changing The Future Outcome.
The ingredient in this product, which has the potential to make us boomers feel good is CBD. And CBD comes from industrial hemp, or the Cannabis Plant. The Cannabis Plant has two major active ingredients. They are CBD and THC. The difference between the two is that THC will make you high, and CBD will not. The CTFO product utilizes CBD. CBD can be legally distributed.
If this sounds like something which you may be interested in, here is a link to a website, which explains in detail what this CTFO product is all about.
Lack of Money
Far too often boomer approach retirement, or enter into retirement without the financial resources to sustain themselves. That is the reason why many boomers have delayed retirement, or even decided to never retire at all. The last option isn’t realistic, sense we are all going to have to retire at some point.
Most boomers are not looking at being totally broke during retirement, as we will, at least be drawing Social Security. However, Social Security was never designed to become a persons major source of retirement income.
Therefore, we need to find a way to supplement our retirement income. But how to do that? If we liked what we did prior to retirement, and we can return to that occupation, that’s a good option.
Not all of us have that option. In which case we may have to think outside of the box. We may have to look at a different type of income opportunity. Our retirement years is the perfect time to investigate such opportunities.
The internet is a place where we can find ways to supplement our retirement income. Care must be taken, however, to not fall victim to a scam. The internet is also the home of many scams.
What I Do
I would like to point anyone who may be interested, in the direction of an income generating opportunity, which is found on the internet, and is not a scam. I know that because this is what I do over the internet.
I do a thing called Affiliate Marketing. Let me briefly explain what affiliate marketing is. There are people who have products or services which they would like to market over the internet.
Some of these people, for one reason or another don’t want to market their product or service, or they need help marketing their product or service on the internet. That’s were a affiliate marketer comes in. The affiliate marketer, markets the product or service online, and when a sale is made, which the affiliate marketer had a hand in making, the affiliate marketer earns a commission.
The only problem which remains to be solved is. How does the affiliate marketer learn how to market products and services online? I’ll be honest, it’s not easy. But then nothing worthwhile is easy.
The online platform I’ve used, and still use to learn how to affiliate market is called WEALTHY AFFILIATE. I assure you that this is not a scam site. To check it out, just Google Wealthy Affiliate.
Affiliate marketing is a true occupation, and like any worthy occupation, to become a professional at it, we have to be thoroughly trained. That thorough training, concerning affiliate marketing is available at Wealthy Affiliate.
If anyone is interested in learning how to become an affiliate marketer, here is a link to my website, where I have a page dedicated to a review of the Wealthy Affiliate product.
The one thing which we can count on in this life is that there are going to be changes. Probably the most notable change is regarding how our bodies are going to change. And there is nothing we can do about it, we just have to deal with it.
That all I’ve got for now. The more time I spend on this post, the older I get, and the more sure signs of aging, I have to deal with.
