Hi and welcome to my website, my name is Darrell Dickinson.
I was born in Ogden Utah in 1947. Flash forward to 1965, I graduated from high school, went on to college for a year, then spent the next three years in the Army. After I got out of the Army I
kicked around for a more than a few years, and then I married the love of my life, and we’ve remained married for 38 years. In the process we have acquired three children, two boys and a girl, and 7 grandchildren. So you see I’ve lived the life of the typical baby boomer. To tell you the truth, until I retired, I’ve never considered being a boomer as being anything special. Since I retired six years ago I’ve been researching the problems which boomers have, problems which previous generations have not had to be concerned with. Now I spend my time playing golf, and publishing a Blog, which exposes the challenges of boomer retirement, and offering solutions to these challenges.
The Purpose of My Website
It has come to my attention that baby boomers is far less prepared for retirement than any previous generation. There are reasons for this, however.
Boomers have witnessed the demise of planned pension funds, which were administered by the boomers employers. These pension funds were the prime source of retirement savings for the previous generations. Now only government employees, and those affiliated with strong labor unions, are eligible to draw on pension funds.
The Great Recession of 2007 – 2009, put the screws to many a baby boomer retirement plans. Many boomers lost their employment, and had to dip into their retirement savings, during that recession.
The value of many stocks tanked during this recession, and since investing in stocks was a good way to grow a retirement fund, once again boomers took a financial beating.
It is true that over the years the stock market has rebounded, but the confidence that boomers once had in the market did not rebound.
Healthcare is another challenging issue that boomers have to face. As the rate of inflation continues to rise, so does the cost of healthcare. A serious illness or injury can put a serious dent in the money we have set aside for our retirement.
My Goals for This Website
My goals for this website are three-fold. First publish the unique challenges which we boomers face regarding our retirement. Secondly to provide solutions to those challenges. And third, provide a place where a discussion can take place concerning the special problems which may prevent boomers from enjoying their retirement.
That’s all I got for now. I do want to hear from anyone who has any thoughts to add concerning BABY BOOMER RETIREMENT HAPPINESS. You can leave your comments below.
